I am the sole breadwinner for a family of 4 kids, and work very hard to make sure my family never lacks. Earlier this year, our house was burnt in a fire resulting from a downed power line, and I also lost other property including a car. My lovely baby girl (39 weeks at the time of the fire) was miraculously born on her due date one week later - despite the major stress of the entire situation, and (the fact that) she was born when we were all living in one humble hotel room. Needless to say, it has been a tough year with the new baby, extra unforeseen expenses, recovery costs, and time I had to take away from work to stabilize and support my family - all in the midst of this tough economy.

Struggling throughout the year, I have managed to keep going...I don't know where I got the strength from, though occasionally finding myself behind in bills and payments when times were toughest, and having to make tough choices, compromises and sacrifices to feed, clothe and sustain my family. Recent delays in payments by some major clients (good companies - but hard hit by the economy and facing a tough year close, holiday payroll - who delayed payments, paid less or temporarily changed net terms to go into next year) resulted in my pay being delayed and not getting paid. Being in sales/client services, I am only paid when money from the clients' payments clears. Stretched so thin, being paid late, less or not at all has had a huge impact, even though short term.

We've had a very cold winter and utility bills are also high. Our rent is behind and way past due, and we face eviction if I cannot come up with the whole amount due. Had to make some tough choices, so important utilities like heating/power are not disconnected, put food on the table and take care of sick ones (including myself, who went down with the flu, but had to work). While I have done everything to keep us going, and this situation is temporary, I cannot bear to see my family evicted or out in the cold. I am strong and pride in the ability to support my family, but I now realize that even the strong need to ask for help sometimes. I would rather be giving, but I need your assistance due to this humbling situation and temporary setback. Thank you very much for your time, consideration and help.

Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

I would like to take this moment to thank you so much, on behalf of my family and I, for taking the time, effort and your financial resources to share with and help us during a difficult transitional period. While I would rather have been giving not receiving, this important experience has taught me several lessons that I would like to share with you: 1. Irrespective of how well prepared you are to weather and buffer them, challenges like these can always come to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. They come to make you - and others - stronger, better and wiser; challenges being the substance that creates human strength, goodness and wisdom! 2. When they come, they come at a specific season and for a specific reason - that God has appointed - to prepare and equip you (and the others he has appointed to be by your side as you climb your mountain...to pool together the collective human strength, goodness and wisdom necessary to surmount your challenge) for your important destiny and purpose on Earth. 3. The amazing thing is that you - and those who collectively pool together with you to climb your mountain - grow and become stronger, better and wiser in the process! When human beings collectively pool together their strength, goodness and wisdom in any situation, no mountain or challenge - no matter how big - is insurmountable! As such, I thank you for being one of those special human beings that God appointed for this specific reason and season in my life, to pool with me to surmount my challenge and climb my mountain. You have become stronger, better and wiser - with me, in spirit - in so doing! May God Bless you and yours for sharing your resources with my family during this important time in our - and your - destiny and purpose, and may the basket from which you shared with us never go empty! Ditto my sweet angel J.J.E. at Modest Needs who has been kind, sweet and most helpful...like the drops of water that make up an oasis in the desert...becoming the catalyst that facilitated your destiny, hers and mine being meshed together at a special human moment designed to make us all grow and advance in our destiny and purpose, so that we all became stronger, better and wiser! Thank you!
