I was let go of my job this year after an impeccable record for over 4-1/2 years of service. When I filed for unemployment, my previous employer contested it and I am now stuck in the appeals process. In the meantime, I am a single mother who was able to find a job to work from home to be with my daughter (but there is a catch - it is 100% commission). I did not make ANY sales this month and now do not have a way to pay rent for January 2010.

On top of that, I have never received child support for my daughter and just applied for legal services help to assist me with that yesterday. I am in the worst bind I have ever been in and am really embarrassed about this. I picked up a few hours a week for a caterer but due to the economy, their business is down considerably. I do not want to lose my apartment and need your help.

This person has left the following thank you note:

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeExactly two months ago when I submitted my application for rent assistance, I wrote my submission with the pretense that somebody better help me because I deserved it due to all the trials and tribulations I had faced with my recent firing and child support case. Fast forward to today, when I rushed to the computer (just as I do every morning at 6:30am) to check the status of my grant with Modest Needs and learned I was approved! When I saw that my submission had been granted...I had to reread it. I thought, am I dreaming? Then instantly, the tears started to fall. I know that there is more than one person who made this possible for me and my daughter. And I also know that the donations are anonymous, but I really wish I could meet you all personally to hug you. Then I thought, 'I wonder if I passed you at the grocery store or perhaps at the gas station, or better yet at church?' For those that have helped my daughter and I, please know this...This process has really made me grow up and realize that there is more to life than material things - even a roof over our head. I prayed EVERY day that this grant would get approved and that things really would get better for her and I. But in the process, I have learned so much about myself. I vowed that if this was fulfilled, she and I would start a daily gratitude journal (she is 5 1/2). So my first entry (today) will be dedicated to all of you who made a difference in our financial state. Each tear that flows down my face as I write this thank you letter represents each of you. I also want to let you all know that it is my turn to give back. I will also 'pay it forward' and help another in need. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for helping us financially, but more than that, for helping us become better and stronger people. And to the team of people at Modest Needs, thank you for the daily updates and for supporting this organization. I have told two other struggling moms about this and will pray they receive the same success that I have. Through prayer and belief, anything can be accomplished. My prayer for today is this: Father, help me to see as much good as I can in every person and in every situation. Rather than seeing the glass half empty, let me see it as half full. I choose to have an outlook on life. Filled with warmest gratitude, T & K
