Hello. My husband and I have 2 small children. I work full time to support my family and also attend a community college part time. I am working on my second degree. My husband is a stay-at-home dad to our children, one of which who has special needs. Due to our sons rare condition (eosinophilic esophagitis or EE) it is necessary for my husband to be within reach of the school at all times so he can't work outside the home as of right now.

On Friday I was in total shock when I opened my electric bill and saw the total amount due. My first thought was that it was just an error and I quickly called to notify the electric company. After speaking to 3 different customer service reps I was informed that they found a bill that was outstanding (from 4 years ago) and they combined it with the current amount due. So my normal $200-300 a month bill is now $1425.

Now I am not proud that I have an outstanding bill but it was from years ago when we were very very broke and the electric service was cut off and we just didn't have the money to turn it back on. I have planned on paying it off after graduation but the electric company isn't giving me that option anymore. The said if I can't pay the full amount due by the end of the month then they are going to cut our electric and gas again. If that is the case then we will be forced to break our lease and move out of our home.

I just don't know what else to do. I don't have that kind of money and the electric company isn't will to work with us at all. Thank you to all who have read my story. Any help that I receive is greatly appreciated. God Bless you.
