I asked my landlord if I could block the electrical outlets on the outside of my duplex when I noticed an increase in the electrical bill. His answer was no. I came home after work and caught my neighbors running a cord from the side of my duplex to theirs.

After confronting them, I still reported that I believed that they were using the outlets when I was not at home. I live alone so there is noone there to watch any activity. I spoke with a representative and they have been working with me to extend the payments out as long as they could. But the lights have been turned off.

I contacted United Way and asked if they knew of somewhere where I could just iron my clothing so that I wouldn't lose my job because of an unkempt appearance. I contacted Palmetto House, they accommodated me. The bill has now escalated to an amount I cannot cover.

They agreed that there might be something unusual going on but I'm still responsible for the payment. After pleading with the landlord, he has allowed me to remove the sockets.

Testimonial

This person has left the following thank you note:

It has not been easy for me to ask for help from anyone. I'm humbled that such an organization exists out there to help those who are helping themselves. I've never had to ask for help so I never knew how it felt to be in need. But my own need has brought me to the awareness that as I go about my day, there are those around me who need me. They need me to help, a kind word to be said, and to reach out whenever possible. I'll never forget what you've done for me and I won't from this point on refuse to help someone else. Thinking that many are looking for a handout instead of being responsible for themselves. I realize that we're all we have here on earth-each other and we really need each other's love, respect, care and help. Thank you for all that you have done. I began donating by paycheck to Trident United Way and now I have this organization to donate to. One that I know I can trust.
