I asking for your help with payment of a doctor's bill related to my Black Lung claim. I worked 21 years as an underground coal miner and have been disabled for three years now. We live in a very modest, older home in a rural community. Although we somehow manage to keep our bills current, our taxes and insurances paid on our SSI checks, there is next to nothing left for anything extra. It seems that no matter how hard we try, it's been impossible for us to save enough to pay the doctor and put gas in the car to make the almost 400 mile round trip.

It is unlikely that I will be able to return to gainful employment since I've had two open-heart surgeries in less than three years.; most recently in February 2010 after having a systemic staph infection that 'dissolved' the heart valve replaced in 2007 and also required an aortic root replacement. I will not be eligible to draw my miners' pension or Social Security for at least six yrs. at 62.

Approval of my Black Lung claim would add a little extra income and allow us to save a little to cover unexpected expenses like this in the future. Thank you for taking your time to consider this request.

User-submitted image - Click to see real sizeWhen Karen told me that my request for help with the doctor bill was fully funded, I was awe-struck. I began to search my heart for the right words to express to you how much your generosity truly means to me. And I decided that the best words seem to be, Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I've never had to ask for help until I became disabled and it wasn't easy for me; but knowing that you, as a group, have made it possible for me to take the next step towards getting out of the 'living-hand-to-mouth' cycle as well as feel more secure about my 'golden years'. Again, I truly appreciate your contributions and thank you!!!! Ron B. P.S. This has to be the MOST UNBELIEVABLE birthday gift I've EVER received (8/12/1954) RB
