Plumbing Bill, Co Threatening Lien
| Cost to fully fund this application: 371.00 Modest Needs Points
The figure above includes the cost of fulfillment.
My wife has MS for 30 years, diabetes for 16 years. I caught MRSA 2 years ago, which nearly killed me, and did damage to my heart requiring open-heart surgery and a pacemaker, along with damage to my liver, kidneys, lungs, and bone marrow. During my 17-week hospitalization, we exhausted our life savings paying for an attendant for my wife who was wheelchair bound during that time. We have many unpaid doctor bills.
We have applied for mortgage payment reduction (the government's HAMP program) through our lender and received temporary approval. We make our third reduced payment on Aug 2 and hopefully they will approve us for permanent modification shortly thereafter. Our expenses (reduced mortgage, utilities, food, and sundry items) just about equal our income, but there aren't much left over for any extras, such as clothing, haircuts, hypoallergenic products (my wife and I both have very sensitive skin. She always has, and I have since the MRSA.), extra and unplanned bills (this is our third plumber service this year) which have to be paid immediately cause everything else to be shifted around and paid late.
I am seriously behind on my water & power bill due to these other bills, but they are helpful and are working with me so I can catch up. If I could get out from under one relatively small bill, it would help me a lot to catch up elsewhere. They want $100 per month. I give them $50, and they threaten me with a lien against my house. Under California law, as I understand it, they could try and force a foreclosure, but as the house is 'underwater' I suspect the lender would have something to say about this. But the threats cause stress for both my wife, and me, and stress is seriously adverse to both MS and a permanently damaged heart.
Thank you for your consideration.
