Here, on the Modest Needs 'Testimonials' page, we ask all Modest Needs grant recipients to post a short note describing the impact your giving has had on their lives, on the lives of their families, or, in the case of non-profits, on the lives of the people they serve.
We maintain this page so that visitors to Modest Needs can see for themselves what Modest Needs' active members already know:
Pocket change used wisely has the power to change real lives.
We do not edit these testimonials. We think they speak for themselves.

Words can not express what this means to our family! We have certainly been through hell and back as Mandy did not just have cancer; she had brain cancer. Her complications required us one of us to stay with her 24/7 for her initial three month hospitalization. She lost the ability to speak for three months and had to relearn many skills many of us take for granted. But we promised her she would never be alone. Our next promise to fulfill is sending her to Northwestern college to become a doctor. It will be a struggle for her as she speaks and writes slower than before her diagnosis. Yet, she wishes to graduate with honors from middle school. I am sure she will do it as she skipped a year when she went through the worst of her treatment. She also raises money for local charities like Camp Sunshine, One Step camps, and Children's Memorial Hospital. She will be giving a check to her oncologist on September 15th. She is truly a remarkable child. Thank you for helping us help her to realize her dreams one day. My wish for her is a long, long healthy life. She is due for an ultrasound of her kidneys on Wednesday, Sept. 8th to see if a tumor maybe present. I can't imagine telling you what I am thinking right now. But worst case senario is removing a kidney;that's a lot easier than a brain tumor. Of course, I am praying that it is nothing!!!!You have given me one less thing to worry about! Thank you so much, JM

I am truly blessed! I have always tried to continually have faith in other people. Now I am convinced that there are still some human beings out there willing to help others. I am also one of those people and will also continue to 'pass it forward 'to others in need. 'No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. ' Thank you from the bottom of my heart; I truly appreciate the kindness and effort on all ours / your parts. I was promised in recovery that things like this would materialize if I worked for them. I am a firm believer in that alone. Thank you and God Bless you and Your Families.

Thank you very much for your help with paying my light bill. This let's me know that I am serving the right God and that prayer is not in vain. And when I sleep at night and the cool air hits my face I will say, 'Thank you Jesus' and I thank this organization who has made it possible to have donors like you to help me to keep my air on. Thank you very much. Dannette

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my needs. I was greatly concerned about my family and our financial issues after the air conditioner froze up and leaked water onto my daughter's room floor. I had several sleepless nights here in Kuwait while they dealt with the details and I was unable to help being so far away. My wife also felt a great deal of responsibility thinking that perhaps this would not have occurred if I was at home to detect the problem sooner. Speculation filled her emotions with anger towards the military and my orders to deploy with the National Guard. I applied with modest needs and hoped for the best. I was able to check my email on a regular basis and received the daily updates. At first it seemed as if perhaps our request would not be funded, but as time went by I was greatly encouraged by the support we were receiving. As the donations began to increase my anxiety subsided. Now my request has been funded and I want to leave this very important message on behalf of my family to all of those who made this possible: Thank YOU!!

Modest Needs paid for an estimate on my car which cost $100. Based on the estimate, I decided not to keep the vehicle as the repairs would have been far too costly. I greatly appreciate the assistance from Modest Needs and have decided to save money for a better vehicle vs throwing money away on a piece of junk.
